The other morning I woke up and immediately things were weighing on my mind, challenges that I constantly tell God about and pray over.
I was running late and so had less time than I wanted to spend reading the Bible before my son woke up. I was desperate to really receive revelation from God and so I prayed God would speak to me in just those few minutes.
As I opened my Bible app a daily verse appeared. I prayed this would be relevant. Do you ever do that? So often I’ll find myself in a moment when I am desperate for something of God’s incredible promise to think on and yet I have no time to open a Bible and study, so I pray. I pray that God would speak to me through the verse that day that pops up on my phone, or through the email that comes through every day from my favourite preacher. How often God is faithful with the thing I need to hear being the very thing I find myself reading.
And on this occasion it was no exception. Just a couple of verses from Psalm 95, and yet they completely changed my day:
Come, let us sing to the Lord!
Let us shout joyfully to the Rock of our salvation.
Let us come to him with thanksgiving;
Let us sing psalms of praise to him.
– Psalm 95:1-2
In that moment I remembered that God is bigger. He is greater and even when we find ourselves feeling overwhelmed He is still so worthy of praise. I started telling Him how great He is, how much I love Him and as I did my perspective completely changed. I remembered He is in control. I started to remember once again that however big something feels to me, it is not big to Him.
So often when we are facing a problem or need it is easy to fill every bit of time when we chat to God with telling Him our problems and asking Him for help. Let’s not forget to first tell Him how great He is and as we do this we will see those problems start to shift.
