I’ve been thinking about the importance of our words recently. It’s something I’ve felt challenged about for a long time and over the last week I’ve started noticing more and more reference to this in the Bible. We all know what we say is important, but just how much do our words affect? Here’s why I think our words literally have the power to change our life.
Isn’t it funny how things can change. How we can go from a place of fear to a place of faith without really noticing it even happening. How we can long desperately for something and it feel so distant and then suddenly find ourselves with the very thing we’ve longed for without really giving it a second thought.
We’ve spent the last week in Spain visiting my sister. For the last few years this has been our summer tradition and so every year we come I find myself naturally thinking of how things were the previous year. This year marks a biggy for us. This is our last summer holiday as a family of three before very soon becoming four. I can’t help but remember how different things were a year ago.
I love bedtime with my son. Not because he goes to sleep and mummy gets a break (although that is always nice!), but because I believe it’s a massively important part of the day and one that could so easily be overlooked in the rush to get the lights out. The question is are we using this time to really impact our children or is this just a quick kiss goodnight before we rush downstairs to put the TV on and our feet up.
With constant demands and pressure today it’s no wonder so many of us get burnt out, stressed or exhausted. I see so many mums who are desperately trying to keep up with the demands of doing it all and yet feel overwhelmed or have lost peace – I know I’ve been there at times! But once that happens, how do we get it back again? How do we learn to live in joy and peace rather than fear?
This week I’ve been thinking a lot about promises from God. We know promises are given by God but how do we walk in the good of them? What do you do when you have your promise and yet circumstances just don’t seem to line up with what God’s said will happen? What do we do while we’re waiting and how do we strengthen our faith?
Do you ever feel lacking in purpose in motherhood? Like you’re not achieving anything of worth by being at home with your children and you’re just filling time? Stay at home mums and working mums alike, we all spend time with our children and yet it can be easy to see this time as menial.
I find it fascinating that in today’s society so much emphasis is placed on career status. In fact I recently watched an interview where they stated less women are having children now than ever before. One reason they suggested was because women are taught to go get their career; achieve for themselves first and put children on the back burner.
I wonder right now how many people have lost hope. Perhaps you’ve been through something awful, maybe there’s something you’re pursuing that hasn’t yet turned out as you wanted, or maybe you’re just disappointed. Disappointed by life, let down by the way some things have turned out and feeling hopeless. What can you do?
Perhaps you’ve prayed. Maybe you’ve cried out to God a hundred times asking for Him to change something and yet nothing has. Maybe you don’t even believe in God.

Becoming a mum is quite possibly one of the biggest life changes we can go through, your time is no longer your own and there are constant demands. If you’re a believer in Jesus then I’m sure you’ll agree making time for God is important, but how do you prioritise God amongst the necessary demands of motherhood and seemingly endless chores? How do you find time when your energy is spent on your little ones?
Having been employed previously in incredibly demanding roles, I can honestly tell you that my time has never been more limited that now. I juggle constant demands of looking after my growing boy along with looking after a household of 5 and all that entails. Life has never been so busy. Time has never been so stretched. My energy levels have never been as challenged. And yet I can honestly say I spend more quality time with God, seeking Him, reading His Word & worshipping Him then ever before.

I had recently felt challenged to start being careful about my diet. It’s not that I’d been overly unhealthy, but how much fruit was I eating? How many carbs was I having? I was feeling particularly tired and in need of a change so February has been a detox month for me. It’s been a month of getting on top of my lifestyle, making little changes rather than drastic diets and I’ve got to tell you, I’ve never felt better.
