Life can be busy. No doubt about that. I don’t know your story but I know mine. Family health issues, busyness around the home, general commitments and a constant battle to try and squeeze in time for so many things that seem important. Our days can be so cram packed that at the end of it all, we can look back and realise we haven’t even uttered a single prayer for our kids. It doesn’t matter you think, they seem fine, I’ll pray tomorrow. But what if our passivity is one of the greatest enemies of this generation, and possibly one of the things that could impact our children more than anything? What if what you do today could change their future forever?
I sat last night feeding my daughter. She was sleepy and the house was quiet and in the moment I was forced to stop. How little I do that. Just stop. As I sat there I prayed. At first, I just uttered words that came to my mind and if I’m honest, in my tired state it felt almost like hard work to think what to say that was new, fresh, and not just the ‘same old prayer’. But the more I prayed, the more I felt I was starting to connect with God’s heart for my little girl. As I spoke words I suddenly found I was declaring truth over her, praying God’s heart for her and sensing just a small part of the exciting adventure that He has planned for her.
But here’s a sobering thought, what if in that moment of me speaking those prayers, He answered ‘Yes’ … What if one moment of me praying transformed the rest of her life? What if!
It was powerful, my heart connecting with His for my daughter and then, in turn, me praying out those things He was revealing to me that He wanted to do. What did I pray? For her salvation, for her to know Him, experience His goodness, for a revelation of His love that would transform her, for intimacy with Him, for protection, for identity, for purity, to name just a few!
But here’s a sobering thought, what if in that moment of me speaking those prayers, He answered ‘Yes’. What if to each thing that I asked for my daughter, those things that are vitally important to me, what if in that single moment of me asking it caused my incredible Father to say ‘Yes’. What if one moment of me praying transformed the rest of her life? What if!
I don’t know why sometimes we ask once and He does it, and yet other times we ask, ask and ask again and sometimes it seems as though nothing changes. But the truth is, every single prayer we speak, He hears. He commands us to pray and he most certainly answers. What if every single prayer you speak, those words are like a drop of water in a scale. A drop that will keep filling up that bowl until suddenly it’s full, and the scale tips; the balance changes and He answers your prayer. What if!
I know you’re tired. I know sometimes it can feel hard to pray. Sometimes the words are hard to find, but we don’t have time not to. We can’t afford to leave our children’s future to pan out on its own. It’s far too important to leave to chance. Let’s start asking, start connecting with our Father’s heart for them and asking for those things He is wanting to do. Because maybe your words right now, could just change their life forever! x
